So what is audio tag analysis? Most modern music files (including MP3s, MP4 / iTunes, etc.) contain special blocks of data called tags. These embedded tags describe various attributes of the music file, such as the song title, artist name, album name, bitrate, and more.

Duplicate File Detective 4 has the ability to read and compare music file tags, providing us with a couple of important benefits:

1. We don’t need to read through the entire file to compare it against others (saves considerable time).
2. Audio files with minor content differences can still be recognized as duplicates, as long as they have the same tag data.
3. We can still combine audio tag analysis with other comparison techniques, when needed.
